Audio Engineer, KOKO & The House of KOKO

The Audio Engineer plays a hands-on role in delivering high-quality events across the various venues and spaces at KOKO. This role calls for an agile and proactive professional with strong live audio experience, a solid technical foundation, and excellent client-facing skills.
Working with a multi-faceted team, you will oversee technical operations, support teams on the floor, and help maintain KOKO’s technical infrastructure to the highest standards. Clear communication, problem-solving ability, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment are essential.
This is a full-time position, working five days per week on a rota basis across Monday to Sunday. Hours and days will vary in line with the operational needs of the venues, across The House of KOKO and in support of our KOKO Electronic club nights as their main focus.
Role & Responsibilities
Production & Event Delivery
- Deliver exceptional audio experiences across a diverse range of events and spaces.
- Manage all aspects of setup, soundchecks and live delivery to the highest technical and creative standards, ensuring events run on time and within budget.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of KOKO’s technical inventory and infrastructure
- Support load in & backline set up’s as required
- Assist in developing and managing technical riders, supporting cost tracking and equipment specification.
- Attend production meetings and contribute technical insight where needed
- Work with the Head of Production & Production Manager to implement changes to technical specifications.
- Support the training and mentoring of junior staff, interns or work experience placements, and providing basic technical training to FOH staff.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with technical, operational, and front-of-house teams to anticipate needs and ensure smooth event execution, with a pro-active mindset.
- Liaise confidently with promoters, contractors, artists and external suppliers to align on requirements and timelines.
- Lead by example with a hands-on, collaborative approach, maintaining professionalism and adaptability under pressure
- Communicate effectively across departments to ensure clarity around responsibilities and priorities.
- Communicate effectively and remain adaptable to last-minute changes in event schedules or technical requirements, ensuring all relevant teams are kept informed.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with hirers, artists, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote a safe working culture, carrying out H&S briefings and monitoring compliance.
- Prepare, distribute and oversee risk assessments and method statements.
- Ensure all technical processes, equipment and suppliers comply with current legislation and KOKO H&S policies.
About you
We are looking for a versatile and solutions-focused audio professional with a passion for live events and technical excellence, with the following key attributes:
- Proven experience with live audio a similar multi-purpose, small to midsized venue is essential.
- Excellent working knowledge of Allen and Heath & Soundcraft consoles, D&B equipment and Sennheiser & Shure wireless equipment
- Experience setting up, testing, and monitoring DJ equipment to ensure full functionality.
- Confident working hands-on with backline and live setups.
- Basic understanding of lighting and video desirable
- Strong communicator, able to work effectively with internal teams, external hirers & members and artists.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
- Proactive and solution-focused, capable of anticipating challenges and supporting smooth event delivery.
- Sound understanding of Health & Safety requirements in live event environments and practical application on-site.
- Positive, professional attitude with the ability to foster a kind, collaborative and inclusive working environment.
